Call Us What You Want... Nationwide Screenings

The people at stereophonics HQ [they're not nice people any more - i'll explain that in a minute] have aranged about 12 showing of the new [ok - 2 month old...] video 'Call Us What You Want But Don't Call Us In The Morning' in bars around the country - yes bars, so if you're under 18 without a fake ID, you're fucked basically - that would be me.

And to make me even more jealous [i could live without a screening - i have the vid. Woulda been nice to see a decent size version of it though, if you know what i mean] they're giving away free phonics stuff at these evenings, all i know is that some of the stuff will be the DVD and Video of 'Call Us What You Want..' - and if any of it's signed stuff, i'm going to be very pissed off with them!!!

Kelly Jones Acoustic JEEP Preview

Ok, its not humanly possible that you could not of heard about this, but if I don't put it up in the news section people will point it out, so I'm just preventing a bit of useless mail!! Basically he's doing 8 dates around the country [one in Ireland, two in Scotland, 5 in England] where he will play some of the new tracks from JEEP and old stuff as well.

The important thing to remember is that it is NOT a Sterophonics tour, its 'one man and his guitar' - like the gigs Bob Dylan used to play. They're calmer [acoustic kinda gives that away] so there will be no 'rocking in the aisles or moshing in the pits'.

Contrary to popular belief [Hardly surprising being as Kelly announced it on radio 1] the new guitarist will NOT be going on the acoustic tour, Kelly's taking a pianist instead - I don't know if it's gonna be Tony Kirkham [Stereophonics keyboard guy - remember??], I guess we'll just have to wait and see!!

A few of the dates do have over 18 restrictions, but check that they actually apply because i'm going to b'ham which apparently has a restriction, but the actual venue when i phoned them up said they didnt - go figure. The only gigs 'officially' with no age restriction are Dublin, Glasgow and Edinburgh, but if you're going to Birmingham it looks like you'll be alright!! If you want to know if they are just phone up - it's the only way you'll get a straight answer.

All the gigs are now sold out so, so ure only hope of gettin tickets is begging on the msg board[s] or hangin about outside the gig payin stupid amounts of money to touts - scum of the earth that they are

The webcam pics have gone forever!!

Incase you didn't realise, chat [on stereophonics.com] has moved home, it's got it's own space on the navigation bar now and the little smiley face thing is in the message board - it disapeared for a while, but i think everybody bar me missed that, so don't worry!!

Thing is, because it's moved the webcam pics have gone [the webcam finished about 2 months ago but there was a pics archive], so now the only place you can see them is here!! Ok, that won't be true for long cos people are bound to nick them, but for the moment you can 'relive the golden memories' with the archive pics, plus some i did myself!! enjoy - click here to see em

Kelly's made a diary entry!!!

Shock horror!! Kelly has actually written an entry [aparently richard twisted his rubber arm =)]!!! Well, it's a joint one with Richard, but it does have his pic!! Musta got over his internet phobia, eh? Well - at least Stuart's still scared of us all!! Go see it @ stereophonics.com/stereodiary. And if nebody knows what the fuck the journalist/car incident is feel free to mail me!!

Get Stereophonics Mail!!!

At the co.uk site you can now get yourname@stereophonics.co.uk!! and it's relatively new, so you can get really good names - all i know is that localboy, kat, emmie, emma and gemma have gone!! The actual mail thing looks a bit dodgy, and there's tons of adverts, but hey - you get a cool address....

Singles re-released!

So for anybody who didn't buy them/couldn't afford them [that would be me] first time round, you can now buy the re-released singles, from the 2nd local boy onwards, from those lovely people at HMV - trust me, its worth it for the amazing b-sides!!! Just remember you can only get them from HMV, and lucky for you they only cost £2.99 this time around [i've been buying old ones for £4.99+ for ages - Grrrrrr...].

But if you want 'buy myself a small plane' then i'm afraid its napster for you cos thats from the first release of local boy, unless you bought Octobers Select [like me!! read the phonics article here] and got it on the free CD!!

J*E*E*P - New Album!!

Ok - the new phonics album [out April 2000] now has a title - J*E*E*P. It stands for Just Enough Education to Perform [an army phrase]. The whole story behind the title is:

Kelly's brother was in the army, and when he came home he'd write phrase and words on his wall. J*E*E*P was from an army handbook - meaning that whatever situation the soldiers found themselves in, they just needed to know enough to get their job done.

J*E*E*P also summed up kelly's view of the music industry, as is written on their whiteboard [details work to be done on the album] - "Subtle dig at the music industry and journalists and us and everyone - we learn 'just' enough to get by in life"

According to Kelly it is a lot more mellow than the other albums, with a lot of "Neil Young type stuff" on it and only 2 rock songs [Zepplin style - if u don't know who Led Zepplin are go buy one of their albums, i recommend 2].

I could tell you a whole lot more but it would takes hours to upload onto your screen - just read the Select article here, cos you can't buy that issue nemore =(

Also - they're gonna have a single out Feb/March, and they've gotta tour in March to promote the album, more info will be up as soon as i have some =)

Call us what you want but don't call us in the morning

...is the new [well - 2 months old now!!] Stereophonics vid!! It contains videos for the singles; Just Looking, Bartender And The Thief, Pick a Part That's New, I Wouldn't Believe Your Radio, Hurry Up And Wait and Mama Told Me Not To Come, as well as behind the scenes footage.

It's available from 28th August [so it's out now] from decent stores - I got mine at HMV. I've had my b'day now so i've actually seen it, it's SOOOO good!!! BUY IT!!! *hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go - with a walking stick and a shovel full of shit, hi ho, hi ho...*

Carling Weekend

Well, the phonics have played Glasgow Green, Reading and Leeds now, their only UK dates of the year!! If you missed it - you shouldn't have!! I was at Leeds and i saw them, they got the biggest crowd of the whole thing and rightly so.

If you didn't go, you've missed the last oppurtunities to hear Stereophonics older and rockier numbers - Kelly Jones has said he won't play tramp's vest anymore, and with 3 albums of songs to play now - they're not gonna get a long enough set to do it!! If we're lucky they might do one of their large events again [think Cardiff Castle/Morfa Stadium] - but with Kelly's hate of some of the old songs, they're not likely do be up on the setlist, and also his hate of big venues isn't gonna help much either. I guess you just gotta make do with the albums...

Kelly Jones - jack of all trades!!

Kelly Jones is working on his first film script, and hopes to recruit Billy Connolly and Rhys Ifans to play parts in the movie.

According to a report in yesterday's (July 30) Scottish Sunday Mail, Jones has completed the script, which is set in the '40s and based on the life of Albert Pierrepoint, one of Britain's last hangmen, who worked before the abolition of capital punishment in 1965.

Speaking about the main character in the film, he said: "He's very much an ordinary guy. He could be an ice cream man or a bloke pulling pints behind the bar. But when he gets the call, he's suddenly got to go away and kill someone. He does it - almost without thinking - and returns home again."

Jones claims to have given a script to comedian Billy Connolly, who he would like to star in the film. He continued: "I met Billy in Los Angeles at a Travis gig...it turns out he's also a fan of Stereophonics. I told him that there's a line in our song 'Not Up To You' which I nicked from a TV documentary he'd done in Australia.

"Billy couldn't believe it. He grabbed me and gave me a big kiss. So I gave him a copy of my script and he was very interested in the story."

Jones added that he has also been "bending the ear" of 'Notting Hill' star Rhys Ifans to star in the film.

Not that I nicked that straight from nme.com news......
